Best For You, The Environment & Your Wallet!

Beekeepers & Products

Locally produced honey tastes amazing and is good for your health. The bees improve the environment and honey purchased locally reduces CO2 food miles. A truly fantastic product produced by your local beekeeper.

Honey may not be their only bee product. Beautiful beeswax candles, cosmetics, polish, soap, food wraps etc. are some of the many items which may be produced.

Commercial Honey

Commercial honey is often heat treated and highly filtered which removes all enzymes and pollen leaving nothing more than a flavoured syrup.

Walking around  supermarkets you will find honey at unbeliveably low prices. When you consider the cost of the jar and lid, printing for labels, processing of honey, packing, transport, distribution etc. etc. you should be asking yourself what exactly are you eating. Often the labelling will state something like “a blend of Non-EU Honeys” which means it comes from countries without EU food standard regulations.

“Fake” honey is more common than you would imagine as there are huge profits to be gained by unscrupulous honey packers adding sugar syrups such as cornstarch to bulk out their products.

100% Honey 100% Natural

If you want to be eating real honey rather than some sticky liquid labelled as honey you should buy from a known source, your local beekeeper is one of the best.

The honey you buy from a local beekeeper is commonly called “raw” honey (not an official term). This honey is removed from the beehive combs, sieved to take out large particles of wax etc. and then poured into jars – simple and natural with nothing added or taken away.

The main constituents of this super food are mostly fructose and glucose but it also contains antioxidants and has proven benefits for gut health.

There are a number of anecdotal benefits such as: prevention of hay fever, improves heart health, brain benefits plus many more but none of these are scientifically proven.

Manuka Honey – Facts and Fiction

If you are buying Manuka honey because you think it is better for your health, you are literally swallowing nothing more than marketing hype at an increased cost to your pocket. Medical grade honey (click for ref1) applied externally does indeed have healing benefits but Manuka honey consumed orally is no better than local beekeeper’s honey (click for ref2).
